I opened a natwest step account when I went bankrupt and they were fine. Barclays were the worst help wise

I believe from what has been posted recently that Nat West are no longer br friendly? It is only Barclays or Co-op who accept br's!

  • Nat West still operting our Step Account. It is the one wages go into though so I don't know if this makes any difference.
  • I have held a step account for a few years now. I was made BR in August, and they agreed to keep the step account open. I think as long as you don't owe them any money under your br, then they should be fine. I phoned customer services, and it was all agreed over the phone. The have been fine! Very BR friendly!

Access to my dormant Natwest Current account has been stopped for the past week or so. I called them today and was told that I will be able to keep it once the OR says they have no interest in it (although it will probably be downgraded which I assume will be the Step Account). I'm dubious whether they will keep the account open as I've heard people being told this before only to discover that the account has been closed. Time will tell...

The main problem seems to be lack of consistently. People are told that they can keep the account by branch staff, then Head Office close it. Others find that the account works just fine and there are no problems.

This is the main reason when asked that posters on here recommend Barclays or Co-op - these accounts are known to work for bankrupts and not be closed.
