Life Insurance - Ex-smoker

I gave up smoking 3 months ago.
Am I right in thinking that after a year I can go back to my life insurance and get a new quote as a non-smoker? Would I need to prove my non-smokingness?

You need 12 months. However, the use of doctor perscribed/recommended patches etc (which you have to declare) can mean you will not get the full benefit of non-smoker prices until you have really been 12 months clear of ciggies and patches etc. Different providers though do ask different questions on that front.I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). If your insurance is with L & G you need to reapply for a new policy, the old one will not be altered.
