Fitting a mixer shower?

Hi, I'm new to the forum and learning lots so far but could do with a bit of advice about showers.

I have seen a mixer shower on the argos website "Chrome bath and shower super mixer" It's quite cheap but has fairly good reviews. Some of them say it's an easy shower to fit  Would we need to get a plumber out to do this job or could my b/f fit it himself? He has done a very basic plumbing course but has never fitted a shower.

ATM we don't have a shower, just a bath. Does it need to be plumbed into something? or does it just attach to the taps somehow? Sorry for being so clueless :o I hate getting baths and I'm so desperate to get a shower fitted asap!!

The iten number is 830/5518 if it helps, not sure if I can post links.

Thankyou :D

Does it just replace your present taps?

    Hi,

I don't know, it doesn't mention any taps just a description of the shower.
    This is from the website.

Elf 1 setting hand shower with Dove rail and mixer set.
    Includes chrome soap dish.
    Anti clog full shower spray.
    Easy clean rubber tips.
    Hot and cold water mixer.
    Switch-n-Slide adjustable rail.
    1.5m Mylar hose.
ABS conical nuts at both ends.
    Minimum water pressure 20psi.

    Maximum water temperature 46C.

Hmmmm you've given me something to think about now, maybe I'll need new taps too. Hopefully not :)

One of the reviews for it says:
pretty difficult to put up and the grey "box" that fits between the two taps is too wide for my taps, not a good design really would be better to have more flexibility. Not very happy.

So I imagine its like this product, and not a proper shower mixer. Depends what you want, it'll quickly and easily do the job without the need for a plumber - but will look crap.

Thankyou for pointing that out. Theres been quite a few reveiws posted since I last read them and one of them also says the pipe is short and to avoid if tall  which is no good for my b/f!!

Your right, it does look crap :rotfl: I'll start saving my pennies.

    Thanks again.

a proper mixer shower would be about 100 quid from argos.
try 832/4599 as an example. not too difficult to plumb in.

there are hundreds of shower mixer valves on ebay. 50/100 quid range.
    Get some gorm.
