Tesco Recycling

Comments

  • It might have something to do with the fact that Tesco can no longer sell on most recyclables? Plastic and tin cans do not get money, aluminium cans are now £400 per ton (was £800) and mixed paper has also dropped to approx £10 per ton if your exporting it ( costs you to dispose of it to a merchant in the UK).
Thats probably the deciding factor (that and the dodgy people only in it for themselves).
  • You should count yourself lucky that your local tescos ever had this policy in place and had the opportunity to collect points. Cuz you never have been able to at my local tesco.

I agree with the posters that say you shouldn't have to be rewarded to want to recycle, that you should do it fror the sake of the planet and our future. However, the sad fact of life is that virtualy everyone wants something for nothing these days, including recyling (as they went soooo far out of their way ) it is the attitude of "well why should I bother? what is in it for me?"

It is the greedy and selfish society we live in. How sad
  • We haven't got one of those recyclers in our Tesco. Most systems based on trust are withdrawn due to abuse aren't they?

How about reintroducing the deposit for glass bottles? I can remember when I was a child you got a couple of pence back for Corona and Lucozade bottles. May stop some of the broken glass you see strewn about the place after a 'good' night out.
A minute at the till, a lifetime on the bill.

Nothing tastes as good as being slim feels.

    one life, live it!

The OP is about tesco clubcard points, not about the ignorance of some people with regards to recycling.
You would go out your way to put metal in a paper bin? It probably goes to a plant that seperates metal from paper anyway (our bins are metal AND paper). So really, your just sad.
  • Well, having been semi-slaughtered on the strength of this post, and having just been able to get my internet connection back, time for a return of service...

Firstly, good use of the word apposite at 6.24pm Halloway. But let's not get presumptuous over a username. I certainly won't.

Secondly, I used to make a special trip out of my way to recycle at Tesco. Probably not very eco-friendly in my car.

Thirdly, I continue to recycle at my local recycling centre everything that I possibly can (pun?).

The clubcard points were more of a novelty. It seems for Tesco, the novelty has worn off.
...and then the window licker said to me...

Surely recycling is all about longevity for our planet and not clubcard points?

Before this policy change, I did take some recycling with me when shopping to boost the points total but since this change, the items will now be diverted back to the regular doorstep collection box instead :)

They stopped it because it was being abused by people like you....they found that people were cutting things in half to get more points and breaking bottles too for more points.

Never thought of this and didn't see anyone doing this at my local Tesco but can imagine that it was indeed being done...
It was a silly scheme to begin with as it was obvious what was going to happen.

    Unfortunately, I guess so...
