Electricity company messed up

Hi It turns out that my electricity company have messed up - our day and night readings have been the wrong way round so we haven't been paying enough. This has just come to light and I have to ring them on monday to sort it out. (I spoke to them last week but I had to take readings to work out if what they are suspected is right and it is
) We have only been in the house nearly a year so with roughly working it out I think we will have to pay about £300 extra when they adjust our bill - but they told me it must have a been a mistake since the previous people in the house switched (lucky for them they must have had cheap bills and never got found out!) so it was the companies mistake from the start. Should we be expected to now pay a massive bill because they messed up?? I don't mind paying it as we have used the elecrictity obviously but feel like we should get something as they have made a mistake?? Are they likely to offer us anything?
anyone had the same situation??

Sorry, you've consumed the electricity, you will be expected to pay for it.
If you can't afford to pay the extra all at once, the supplier should allow you to repay it over the period it built up, in this case a year.
The supplier may offer you a discount as a goodwill gesture, but they are under no obligation to. A goodwill gesture is just that, a gesture of goodwill."Now to trolling as a concept. .... Personally, I've always found it a little sad that people choose to spend such a large proportion of their lives in this way but they do, and we have to deal with it." - MSE Forum Manager 6th July 20100
