Craft advice - punching holes

I would be really grateful if any of you crafty folks could give me some advice. I want to punch holes through foam and card but the holes from a normal hole punch are too big.

Does anyone know of a simple way of making holes that are smaller than this?

Thankyou very much

You could buy a set of eyelet punches.
  • Thankyou very much Gangstabird - I know it is probably very ignorant but I hadn't come across these!

A few more questions - do these punches have a standard size hole and if so does anyone know what sort of size it is? Has anyone used them on foam before - if so do they work OK? Does anyone know how much they cost from Hobbycraft or where would be a good place to get one from without spending too much?

Thankyou very much for your patience!

I tend to not buy anything like this from Hobbycraft as they're really expensive compared to online shopping! I have a cropodile big bite and I love it!! You can punch holes in almost anything and set eyelets with this tool.. check out the video presentation:

  • Nooooo plm is trying to get me to spend more money. lol

I've been looking at the crop a dile and wondering if it's a good investment. Will add it to my list.

I bought a set of hole punches in 3 sizes from eBay a while ago they look like pliers and the smallest one is exactly the right size for brads.

They usually come in sets of 3 and make a large medium and small hole, the smallest being about 3mm
  • Thanks so much for your help everyone - I will have a look one e-bay.

they're the ones - mine have purple handles and look like pliers - think I paid about £5 for all 3.

Where did you get yours from? I can't find anything like this on e-bay! I was thinking about this on ebay - do you think this would do the job?

    Thanks once again.
  • I got mine from eBay they look like this . Can't tell how big the holes on this one are.

The one I use most is about 3mm.

The other one would be better for setting eyelets - i don;t know what size holes it would punch.

What are you putting in the holes?

  • Thankyou paddingtontoo.

I just wanted a hole for ribbon and the holes from the normal single hole punch I have are too big. (I'm just making lots of bookmarks from foam for mothers' day for a toddler group I run. I was going to thread ribbon at the top and get the children to decorate the bookmarks with foam shapes etc).

You've all been really helpful - didn't know where to start without you guys!
