Contents insurance on rented flat with unrelated tenants

Hi,

I'm trying to find contents insurance for a rented flat that I live in.

I rent from my employer, and as it is a 2-bedroom flat and I only rent one room, it is possible that they could move a cotenant in later during the year.

Are there any insurers who offer insurance for people in this situation? I cannot figure this out from the sites I have visited.

I would recommend you speak to a local broker.

If you were my client I would recommend a "Home plus" policy with Norwich Union who will normally allow you to add the other tenant as a joint policy holder which means you are both covered by the one policy.

You will find it difficult finding an insurer who will want to cover you and your tenant seperately

Hi,

HSBC offer a possessions policy (underwritten by Norwich Union) which will allow you to insure your own contents in a shared accommodation (ie more that one unrelated tennant living in a rented home).

If they move another tennant in they can also get a possessions policy to cover their contents too.
