Can anyone help with a questions about alloys for a Focus?

Hello

We have an early 2001 MK1 Ford Focus with steel wheels. My husband wants to upgrade to alloys, but this is not that simple

Question is what size alloys can we fit and what size tyres, without needing to use spacers or modifications? Does anyone know what the ET of standard alloys is for this car?

Reason we are asking is that the man in Halfords told us we need 15x6.5 alloys with 195/55/15 tyres, with wheels that are ET 45. The Ford handbook my husband has says something different. Is this correct?

Got a set off my old Mk 1 focus sat in my shed which I need to shift - I'm a long way from London though (Yorkshire!).

As said above Ebay is a good place to start - should pic up a decent set for about £100 ish with okay tyres.

There's a useful tool at http://www.scirocco.org/tires/ to work out the effect on speedo readings of changing sizes, together with an explanation of offset.

Don't forget to declare the modification to your insurance company!

Is your husband looking to upgrade to Ford alloys?

You have the option of Zetec 16" Alloys(I have these), Ford MP3 alloys(17") and also the ST170 alloys(17").

    Zetec 16" Tyres = 205/50/R16
    MP3 17" Alloy tyres= 215/40/R17
    ST170 17" Alloy tyres=215/45/R17

  • Your owners manual will list precisely what wheel sizes are acceptable in the technical specifications section.

Do not use any wheel sizes not specifically mentioned in that section.

I have taken this info from FFOC,

The standard tyre for the mp3 is 40 profile and st170 is 45 profile.

The OP can check this at any ford main dealer.
