How do I get a no claims discount from company car use?

Hi

I am 40 and have a private car with full no claims. I am buying a second car for work as my company is taking back the company cars. However, I am being told that I cannot have any no claims bonus on the new policy despite 8 claim free years with the company and 10 on my other car! I am being quoted £1000 for a Laguna!

I do have 6 points on my licence but dont know whether this is affecting it or not.

Does anyone know any companies that will give a no claims discount?

Any other advice?

Direct Line were giving no claims discounts for people who were named drivers but think this was only for people who had the policy with them.

Have you shopped around for quotes or contacted your existing policy issuer?

My dad always said that if he had more than 1 car he would insure them with different companies because if you have an accident in one car it may affect the premiums on both,

  • Just tried Confused and got a quote for £534 with Chaucer Direct.

    Never heard of them though!

Hi, best to talk directly to the insurance companies, some will give introductory discount if you provide written proof of no accidents from your employer although the best you could hope for will be 4 years. I found AXA very helpful in the past.-:j

My DH had the same problem when he went from having a company car to a priate one. We got proof of his no-claims etc from the company insurance and they allowed him a discount, however, on renewal they only applied 1 years no claim discount even though he would have had full no-claims as he had been driving a company car for years - a little unfair I think!

I don't see it making any difference if both cars are with different co's or not.
Every co asks the same question "Have you had any accidents, claim or losses in the last X years"
He would have to answer yes so the premium would* be affected on both cars anyway.

I recommend you speak to a high street broker as they will have a number of Insurers including Norwich Union and MMA who will alow you company car no claims discount normally subject to you getting a letter from the company stating "You had sole use of a company car for business and pleasure use" and detailiung any claims.

    Hope this helps

P.S Normally after the first year they give you a renewal notice stating you have maximum no claims bonus without mentioning it was from a company car. If they do you can use it with most other insurers as "normal no claims bonus

May not be of any use to you, but Diamond let me use my NCB on both cars. Which in turn let us build up an NCB on the 2nd car.. iykwim. I still think I am paying a little extra for being with Diamond, however if I had to start afresh and go to a new company, I would lose the NCB on my 2nd car. Dunno if Diamond are cutting me a special deal here because it's 2 performance cars I have, and they would lose a lot of money losing me as a customer.

Its common for a company to mirror the NCB from one car to another for the first year.
At renewal you can shop around and take the NCB on both cars with you.
