HSBC Card Fraud

Just had a call from HSBC who told me that my maestro card has been one of a number illegally copied and that it has had to be cancelled with a new one being sent to me..which she advised would be a visa one rather than maestro.
she went through some recent transactions which were all mine so it seems as if no one's got away with anything, at least on my account.
She didn't explain how they were copied and I was a bit miffed to hear that the new card is going to take from 5-7 days to reach me...but fair enough I suppose, better to be safe than sorry.
It was only after the phone call that I realised that she didn't go through any of the usual "security check" questions that you usually get when a bank rings you these days. She was listing recent transactions of mine, so obviously had access to my account. But I thought it was strange nonetheless.
I'm wondering how widespread this copy of card numbers was.

It was a database of card numbers that was breached in the US. Quite a few people are affected.0

Beware the e-mail that tells you your card has been blocked so reset your password HERE....I've had them from Halifax (No accounts held) And Lloyds TSB ( No cards held).0

Beware any email claiming to be from any bank, whether you have accounts with them or not.0 -
