Id lost this thread lol! Not very good at searching on here so I saw you in a thread and clicked on your previous posts and searched through those, it took a while but it workedI think Id better subscribe to it now lol!
Well I haven't been too well so OH has been cooking basics but Wednesday I made Chilli con carne for the first time ever and last night I used the left overs to make Buritos, it tasted great if I do say so myself but.... I did cheat and use a packet mix for the herbs/chilli flavourbaby steps lol
Am going to try a beef casserole tonight, but quick question.... I have some broccoli that needs to be used up can it go in a casserole or doesn't that work? If it can go in how soon would I put it in? Also if Im putting frozen mixed veg in when would I put that in?
Thank youMay Groc challenge £51.70/£1300 -
Hi TryingToBeOldStyle,
I would add both the brocolli and frozen veg about half an hour - 40 mins before you plan to serve the casserole.

I think my Grandfather has the oldest frozen food in his freezer. He keeps offering me the frozen fruit that my grandmother put in there - she passed away over 6 years ago.
Does anyone think it would be edible?

Hi Kaloloke and welcome to MSE
I don't think that the fruit would actually do you any harm, but the taste and quality would certainly have deteriorate. I don't think that even I would fancy that and I never pay any attention to dates on frozen foods:)
The jelly that you mentioned in the grocery challenge thread, is a different matter, I would use that as long as it was still sealed. DD2 was eating a block of jelly the other week that was dated 2007 and she enjoyed it.

Nothing wrong with it. Im sure if you googled you could get an official time limit if you really needed one. I'm sure with meat it is recomended to keep in the freezer for between 6-12 months. As long as your freezer is working correctly, it will be fine to cook and eat. I do tend to keep stuff longer than that as with two freezers stuff can tend to go into hiding and not be found for quite some time. If something has been frozen for quite some time the texture of the product can change. I find it does with fish, in that case i wizz it up and turn it into fishcakes.Grocery Challenge 24th Feb-28 Dec 2012 £2000/£1404
