If your meter stopped turning would you inform your supplier?

I think as long as i was still getting gas or electric i would leave it.
It's not your job to make sure their euipment is going around.

Mmmm, difficult one. I would because they can estimate what they think you would have used but I can`t say that I would be in any hurry to do so. I would take a meter reading today as prices will be going down shortly and you won`t want to be charged at the higher price for longer than necessary. When are you due your next bill?
  • Simple one.

Do you want to end up with a massive bill?

If the answer is no, then call them and let them know.

It didn't happen to me just someone I know and they did call up. Just wanted to really know if anyone else would and what the worst that would happen.

How would they know how much electricity/gas you have used?

They'd just do an estimate and bill to that.

I'd call them - wouldn't want to risk being (falsely) accused of tampering with the meter and I'd rather avoid the stupid bill that would inevitably find its way to me sooner or later. Just the way I've been brought up to be hideously honest though - if I get too much change in a shop or similar I'll 'fess up to that as well.

If the seal is missing, or if any damage to the meter case, your freind is leaving themselves wide open to being accused of tampering with the meter. Get them to get it checked out ASAP, if left too long they could end up with a hefty bill, if tampered with they can expect a lot more.

    Hi

You should contact your supplier. The fault will be identified at some stage and the meter changed/fixed. The supplier is then allowed to calculate the usage for the period it was faulty based on the new/fixed meters readings.

You will at some stage receive a catch up bill for this period. The longer it isn't corrected the more electricity you won't be paying for. Remember you are also obliged to check the accuracy of your bills and tell your supplier if there is a error.

A fault with the meter is not your error so you should be offered assitance if there is a bill produced off the back of this fault.
