Wedding account....

I am getting so confused. I'm getting married in May and want to open a bank account that comes with a debit card and cheque book to make it much easier to pay deposits ect. I have £12000 I want to put in straight way, no more will be getting paid into the account but it will be going out obviously. Whats the best account? Thanks ever so much in advance xxx

Any current account will give you those facilities if you are eligible for them. Just open a 2nd account at your current bank. That'll be quickest, just go down to the branch with some ID and, providing there are no issues with your accounts/credit you should get an account number and sort code straight away. But it may take a week or so for your new debit card/cheque book to arrive....

  • Yep, make sure you don't get a current account with a monthly fee, as the benefits will be of no use to you if you're only using the account for your wedding.
    Cashback Earnt so far in 2009: AMEX £133.93, wepromiseto.co.uk £67.07, Barclaycard £25, MobilePhoneExchange: £28. TOTAL: £254.00

You'd probably be best off with a savings account alongside the current account.

Earn a few extra £££s in interest from the savings account, but have the current account with the same bank.

That way you should be able to transfer funds within minutes from your savings account to your current account and will be able to draw whatever cheques you need when you want to.
