  • Your wife will probably be able to claim Working Tax Credit and if you have children, Child Tax Credit too.

I thanked you instead of quoting you for this post :rotfl: :o

OP's OH will not be able to get WTC if they don't have kids, she earns too much. I think the amount is somthing like £16K or £17K where it stops.

I earn £19.5K, my OH is out of work (starting back on Monday :T ) and has been since October due to redundancy. Unless OP has children he will only get Contribution Based JSA.

OP - I hope you get something soon, redundancy is a horrible situation to be in, and you have my utmost sympathy for the crappy less tahn 1 year situation!
  • Hi all,

In terms of my employer, they have given me 2 months notice instead of one, but I get no redundancy payment as I have been there less than 2 years.

I will officially get a letter to confirm the redundancy by Friday this week, so I have 7 weeks for some funding to come in. It's not guaranteed as yet, but being realistic its looking likely I will be laid off.

It's a real shock to the system, especially as I have always worked and I hate sitting around doing nothing.

On a positive note, I have already started applying for jobs, so fingers crossed

Yes it is a shock. A good way I've found of keeping positive is learning. After a bit of looking at the jobs market you get a feel for what skills would help you get another job easier. It's amazing what free information, tutorials etc you can find online with a few Google searches. Does depend on your line of business though ~ if you decide you need to learn welding for instance, that will inevitably cost a bit of money.

I had actually thought of re-training, but doing that and trying to live is impossible.

I know you can get help towards studying but I don't think it would be enough to cover mortgage, bills etc.

I think the consultation period finished today, but typical I haven't heard anything at all.

    I'll keep smiling though :cheesy:
