my drinking water is cloudy

hi
just wanted to ask about people's experience of cloudy drinking water.
the water coming out of my cold kitchen tap is cloudy for a few minutes but then clears from the bottom up. It looks horrible but, having spoken to the water company, they assure that this is only caused by the temperature difference between outside and inside(?) and is safe to drink.
i wondered if this was true or whether they are being economical with the truth...
my neighbours have not noticed anything wrong with their water, and the water coming out the bathroom tap is fine.
If anybody has any thoughts or suggestions i would be grateful
( i know a similar sort of thread exists elsewhere but with not quite the same query)
thanks

The cold kitchen tap should be fed directly from the mains but possibly some idiot could have piped it up to an old tank.
Turn off the stoptap with the kitchen sink tap running and if it stops straight away ( well within 10 seconds) its not fed from a tank and you can rule the dirty tank out.
OR, Some modern taps have a little plastic thing in the spout that `fizzies` the water up. Sometimes removable by unscrewing. Could this be the case?
If your other cold taps are ok this would suggest the supply to the house is fine.On the internet you can be anything you want. It`s strange so many people choose to be rude and stupid.0 -
We have a mixer tap in our kitchen that tumbles the water, filling it with tiny air bubbles. Sometimes it looks like milk! It doesn't happen every time. We actually had the water board out to check our water quality, and that was their explanation. The air bubbles dispersing also release a strong smell of chlorine!
We filter all our drinking water now."Cheap", "Fast", "Right" -- pick two.0 -

This happens to us every time the water people do any work on the pipes down our street and turn the water off. When it comes back on, it's cloudy but the cloudiness disappears (as in Ted's link) so I put it down to air bubbles. The effect seems to reduce if we leave the tap running for a while. However it can still go on to a lesser extent for a couple of days before completely clearing up.0

I used to work for United Utilities and basically as previously said it IS air in the pipes usually after works.
No amount of running it will clear it, it just takes time. If you put some in a jug and leave in the fridge it will clear, it doesn't affect taste and will do you no harm.
Hope that helps.0 -
