Rent Arrears

Got a letter yesterday morning informing me that I have rent arrears and I should address this issue within 7 days. Got to the bottom of the letter to discover that I owe them a whopping £2.88. Where this amount of money came from I have no idea as I pay by weekly direct debit and receive no benefits whatsoever
Will need to call them on monday morning and pay it, but first i would like to find out where it came from. Probably cost them more than that in admin fees and postage to sent the letter out.
The £2.88 is roughly what I pay for my house insurance with the council, would that count as rent arrears?
Will update when I call them on monday morning...
*sigh*

Sounds like your direct debit may not be for the exact amount? Maybe its just the odd pence short each month and adds up to £2.88?0 -

Update
I think I have found out what this is about. When I first got the keys to this property, they let it in an uninhabitable state. Therefore I got a free weeks rent. I am thinking they didn't adjust my entry date on the contents insurance.
Will call the council tomorrow and see how long it takes for them to work out where it's all gone wrong.
Will also need to check my bank statements, we get 2 free weeks a year with this council, but we don't get them if we have rent arrears, so will need to check them when I have time. So that's the main reason i want to check it, it's not just £2.88 but around £200 over the 2 years. Just don't understand why they have left over 2 years before contacting me about this.
