Q re: Careers Development Loans in a couple of years

I’m hoping to maybe go back to uni for a postgrad but not starting till September 2010-2012, depending how I save, and I’m trying to work out finances for it and that.
Does anyone have any indication or educated guesses of how Career Development Loans might be a couple of years in the future?
Will they likely be around similar to their current form or are there any plans known for the amount of money you can borrow to increase? (or perhaps even decrease as a result of the financial depression?)
Thanks, Glyn

You'd really need a fully operational crystal ball to answer this one accurately and mine's in for repair! This is particularly true given the present economic situation and the fact there will be a general election before too long.
However, I have been involved with CDLs for some time and their conditions haven't changed much over many years so I'd suggest that you can't to much more than assume that they remain pretty similar.
Don't come back and shoot me if they change dramatically, as my previous comment is only an educated guess!0 -
it's also worth looking at whether you can get any sort of funding for postgrad course - it's hard to get but is possible in all subjects for a small number of students (and is harder in the arts!). some departments have more on offer, so it's something else to consider along with all the other things when picking the course/university...... it is a long shot but don't discount it!:happyhear0

Thanks for that Oldernotwiser! An educated guess is fine - I wasn't overly expecting a definite answer for that far in the future, but one of 'no current plans for anything different' from someone involved is helpful.
There isn't funding for the course unfortunately; it's a specialist subject only taught at two universities in the UK and there's no financial support. It's also a two year course so a LOT of money needs to be saved even with a max CDL and student interest free overdraft.0
