When Acorn quoted for my Mum's stairlift, their price was about 1000 pounds more than the Minivator we bought!

In my experience Minivator are better lifts than Acorn, better service and breakdown history. Stannah lifts are expensive in comparison. If privately purchasing a stairlift, make sure you consider a service contract as stairlifts require regular maintenance. Most stairlifts have harnesses for children. Please PM me if I can assist with further information.

Speak to the Senior OT in your social work department than you have your name on the waiting list for. Tell them about your backpain and ask them to prioritise the assessment as if you do seriously injure your back you will be unable to continue lifting him up the stairs, there is a risk here but if you don't bring it to their attention they'll be unaware.
Thanks for the advice Martin! :money:

A Bargain is only a bargain if you need it!

  • My OT got my stairlift and walk in shower approved very quickly, but this was nearly 3 years ago. You should be able to get a Disabled Facility Grant.

  • Hi - has your son ever been given equipment before by social services OT's?
eg walking frame, chair? Im just wondering if you have, and you have a good relationship with that person that they may be able to get things moving faster for you.

Also your GP (for your back), or your childs paediatrician may be able add weight to need for assessment.

    Best wishes.

  • A DFG is means tested on the child's income - so regardless of what the parents earn the vast majority of children qualify. The exceptions would be children with independent trust funds etc?

If this is what you need then social services should be helping you - they have a budget for equipment, they may not be keen to spend it but surely your occupational therapist would be the person to ask? Golden rule - never spend your own money on your child's needs until you have checked out what help you are entitled to.
