British Gas
British Gas has been ringing me about and unpaid Bill from a business my husband had, he left the business in 2006 and from then on all bills were in his partners name , he received no profit or income from that time. He has lived in the USA since 2007 , we are still married but live apart, he dissolved the partnership in june 2008 .This is the first time we have heard from them regarding this, and wondered if anyone can advise , is he now liable for this , or will they expect me to pay it. Not on speaking terms with partner so i can't ring him.

You dont say what period the bill covers, this will impact if your husband could be liable.IT Consultant in the utilities industry specialising in the retail electricity market.

As the Gas Bill is not in your name I would be very suprised if you are responsible for it and would tell British Gas this in no uncertain terms and that you do not want any other phone calls from them.If you do send them this letter.

Dear Sirs
Harassment by telephone
Account Number: XXXXXXX
I am writing in relation to the quantity and frequency of telephone calls that I have received from your company, which I deem to be personally harassing.
I have verbally requested that these stop, but I am still receiving calls. (Delete if necessary)
I now require all further correspondence from your company to be made in writing only.
I am of the view that your continued harassment of me by telephone puts you in breach of Section 40 of the Administration of Justice Act 1970, and the Protection from Harassment Act 1997.
If you continue to harass me by telephone, you will also be in breach of the Communications Act (2003) s.127 and I will report you to OFCOM, Trading Standards and The Office of Fair Trading, meaning that you will be liable to a substantial fine.
Be advised that any further telephone calls from your company will be recorded. (**Even if you don‘t yet have recording equipment!!**)
Yours faithfully,

So far as your partner is concerned it is up to you whether you want to give his details to British Gas but this might not reduce the time you are not on speaking terms.Good luck and all the best0 -
As you're not on speaking terms with your ex-partner, why don't you just his contact details to BG and let them contact him?
Why are you worrying your head over whether he is liable or not, you're not even on speaking terms with him"Now to trolling as a concept. .... Personally, I've always found it a little sad that people choose to spend such a large proportion of their lives in this way but they do, and we have to deal with it." - MSE Forum Manager 6th July 20100
