State pension.

Just had my state pension stopped, can cover outgoings from other income, but scary. They won't tell me why. "we are dealing with the matter"In fact only found out when checking bank account online. Could have gone into overdraft.
Has anyone else had this occur. Is it legal to stop it without notice? Do I have an right to know why?
Thanks for reading

Not sure whether it's legal or not, but I had this happen to me last year. They said they were 'reviewing' my state pension, which had been in payment for 3 years!! I got no warning, they just stopped my payments.

It turned out they had been under-paying me:eek: and in fact owed me over £2,000. I was sent a statement of how they had worked this out. They paid the under-payment into my bank account and also an interest payment.

Hope this is what's going to happen to you. Good luck.

  • My MIL had her state pension stopped without notice but this was due to an DWP operator stopping her Attendance Allowance because she had been in hospital more than 28 days. As both pension and AA were paid as one payment both were stopped. Managed to get it reinstated but as you say if we had not been watching her bank a/c we would not have known.

    Wow good for you Iris.
It's the 'no warning' that got to me, scrabbling round to set up extra money to meet direct debits on the lst.
Maybe will look to re-date some of these.
