mega drops on price drop tv

I was watching price drop tv tonight and the presenter said that there would be a mega drop where the price of the item fell to one pound before 10.00. Figured out it would be the bread maker (because it was almost 10.00 and nothing had dropped to a pound) and rang in as soon as it came on. The quantity still said 40 (which is how many they started with). The automated voice said that all the items had been sold and that I should ring in sooner next time. The quantity remained at 40 even after I had hung up and only fell after the price dropped to £1. It cost me £1 for the phone call too. Suppose I should know better really. Have managed to get some items before for £1 but only things with low guide prices around £40. Seeing as the guide prices are so inflated probably didn't save much anyway and just bought rubbish I don't really need!
