Sky card & capquest

in Credit cards
hi all,i had a sky credit card from 05 to 06 i had come into a bit of money so decided to pay it off, asked for a settlement fee and paid it by debit card.As far as i was concerned that was the end of it...little did i know!! the settlement was paid in aug 06 in early 08 i started receiving letters from cap quest saying they had bought my debt from sky, what debt i thought! So i phoned capquest, they asked me to provide proof of this i replied it was 2 years and something i thought was closed so the chances of me having any paper proof were slight. So this has went on and on and i have just got off the phone with sky on the first occasion i phoned i was told there was no recored of any settlement agreement and subsequent payment and the second time i phoned i was told they couldnt discuss it with me as it was now capquests. Now in my favour the settlement fee was paid by debit card so the bank will have a record of that but even if it was the case that i still owed sky money why did they not contact me looking it? I paid it aug 2006 and sky tells me they sold the debt in oct 2007 and in that period of time not once did i hear from them looking the money that i now supposedly owe
Plus i pulled up my credit report and it states that there is £501 balance for sky and they say they sold it to capquest for £1300? HELP
