    never knew I shoudn't give post dated cheques.
    can anyone direct me to where these are given.

    I bank with HSBC, if that matters in any way

    When writing a cheque:
    - you must not write a future date on it as it may not prevent the payee from paying it into their bank before that date

    Dou think I should call up the company and ask them to return my post dated cheque, or just leave it as see what happens

    don't want to get stung by any fines or charges for issuing P D cheques

    It's not illegal to write a PD cheque ..... just inadviseable. In case they are all presented together.

    Ring them (you don't say when sent) .... check they've identified they are PD, and have a filing system for bringing them to account on the due dates? Equally check the resultant debits don't take you by surprise.
    If you want to test the depth of the water .........don't use both feet !
