Selling gift hampers

Just wondering whether anyone else has made money doing this?
I was inspired by the hamper thread on here last year and did gift hampers for everyone for christmas that were very well received. I was wondering whether there was a business in selling those sort of hampers. I could do large numbers for specific occasions such as valentines, mothers/fathers day, easter, christmas etc and offer a personalised service to match any budget for other occasions. I would just sell them locally at markets etc to keep it personal business and try to keep the items to locally sourced ones where possible to give me an additional unique edge. What do you think? Has anyone else on here done this that would be willing to share their advice/experience?

Sounds like a good idea - especially with you planning on making them more unique - good luck :D

  • Hi guys I'm so glad you started this thread raggy doll its something I too have been thinking about for a while and will watch this thread with interest!

I have noticed that when searching the web Hampers seem to be very expensive but Ebay ones are cheaper and dont seem to sell that well? -( I may be wrong about them not selling well its only based on a day or two's observation).

I also thought maybe a good idea to advertise locally? playgroups (for new baby hampers), free papers? what do you think?

Any help gratefully received as I dont want to make any up and waste too much money - as I'm assuming you need examples to photo graph ect.

Like most I started making them as gifts and then was asked to do them for friends etc. It really took off at the end of last year. Would love to do it full time

Have a look for a local Flower wholesaler near you - we have one in Gloucester (which is a long way from you!!) and they sell rolls of cellophane and rolls of ribbon at very cheap prices (they supply the local florists)

Failing that, if you speak to your local florist and find out where theirs comes from, and they might even add a roll onto an order for you....

Dizzie, Catherdral Florists? I use them. Very handy for me - they're within walking distance of my house :D

They wanted proof of self-employment (I just took a letter from the tax office) and minimum spend is only £10. I didn't need a trade account, I just pay as I shop.
