Capital One missing payment

in Credit cards
Hi guys
I made a payment off my Capital One credit card back on Jan 19th of £500 through my bank online.
On Monday, I received a letter from my bank advising that I had used the right sort code but wrong account number, however it said that the receiving bank had updated the account number to correctly redirect the money and listed the sort code and account number that had been used (I googled this and it is Capital One so the money has gone to them).
I phoned Capital One and that money has not shown up on my credit card bill. The chap told me that he would send the details to another department and they will investigate and get back to me - I requested a time frame but none was forthcoming.
I've just phoned them again this morning and the guy said he would transfer me to the missing payments department, after being on hold for a few minutes, the guy came back and told me that the department was now closed ror the day - yesterday I was told they were open from 8:15 until 5pm - I told him that and he told me that it was closed for training. To me that sounds like rubbish, maybe made up to avoid bad on-hold stats!?
Anyways, he took the details again, this time including my bank account number and sort code, which the guy, bizarrely, refused to take the first time.
I tried to get him to get someone to give me a call but he kept saying 'We'll keep incontact', 'We'll keep in contact' before eventually admitting that it would be a letter.
Then, as last night, he had the nerve to say 'Would you like to transfer any balances to your account or balances of friends and family?'
Tongue was bitten as I politely declined.
Just phoned them again (5 mins ago) and they say that they have sent me a bacs trace form. I'm not sure exactly what this is but they seemed to be telling me that I'll need to get my bank to help me out. Surely this is bull as the bank have already sent me a form telling me where the money went, complete with sort code and account number!?
This is really annoying, as Capital One seem to be just messing around. Surely to find the payment all they have to do is search for £500 and my account number!? How can it not be easy?!
Is there a chance I might lose this money!?

Same things happening here.
I only paid £50 on 10th January, but they are saying they never got it.
My Bank confirm its been sent to them.
Going to call them again tomorrow, but am a bit worried my credit rating will be effected.0 -
Got it sorted - they said the reference number was not sent to them. Had to get through about 5 layers on Indian call centre before speaking to UK based rep who sorted it in a crack. Took the £12 charge off, but they said I would need to write to them to get the late payment removed from my credit history.0
