Old Curtains

Old curtains are so useful! We recently used them again to protect some nice antique furniture we collected from my mother's flat. DH has used them in a hot summer to build a 'tent' to protect young tomato plants in the veg plot. I had some nice ones I turned into 'morsbags' (https://www.morsbags.com) both for my own use and to put Christmas presents in."Remember that many of the things you have now you could once only dream of" - Epicurus0

If you are handy with the sewing machine - old curtains can be recycled as gifts such as peg bags, oven gloves, hot water bottle cover, car seat covers for dog owner...and for canary or budgie owners - a cage cover for night time would be a much appreciated gift
How about some curtains for the garage/shed windows to keep the cold out and keep your potatoes and cuttings frost free?0 -
If you decide to donate curtains to door collectors check you know its a registered charity. We had a bag pushed through the door the other day. Looking into it [as it didn't look like the norm] it stated that they were collecting for the Chernobyl relief union [ or words to that effect ] Apparently for every ton they collect they will donate £50-00 to this charity. Fine you might think, but chenorbyl was years ago and rags I believe are only realising £7-00 a ton. This doesn't add up. Looked this firm up on the web [wish I could remember their name] Southampton based, and a lot of interest created by the Office of Fair Trading - they do say although what they are doing is not illegal it is amoral. I rang our OFT just to let them know they were in this area now.
The bag is orange and black, pick up between 7 - 8pm. Quite often left.
Take the curtains to the RSPCA or similar, with all this cold weather, more on way, they are crying out for bedding.0 -

 I have noticed this going on in our area (N Lincs) too - last year, we had flyer stating that charity collectors would call and would take virtually anything...old electricals, furniture, clothing, tools... for charity but they were exposed as a scam by local radio bfore they got round to our street. Apparently not exactly illegal but definately not charity!:mad:0
