Hello loopyloulou
I'm sorry to hear that you're suffering with toothache. I'm afraid we're not supposed to ask for (or give) medical advice.
A dentist (or your gp) is the only option if you want sound medical advice and treatment. Whatever bad experience you've had with a dentist in the past, can it be worse than the pain you're suffering now?;)
Be brave and make a dental appointment.
Kind Regards

Oh Poor Lou ... I know just how you feel. I'm afraid the only real option is the dentist, though. Tell yours how nervous you are and I'm sure he'll / she'll be very gentle.0

if you're not sure what it is that's causing the ache, i think you can either: go to the nearest NHS dental centre (they're drop in centres usually attached to your local hospital, call NHS direct for details 0845 4647).
Or if you live near a university with a dental school then their teaching staff / newly qualified trainees will usually see you. That's what my dentist recommended i do when i went off to uni cus she said you get seen much more quickly, and for free. I went when my wisdom teeth were killing me and they were great.

Hi Loopyloulou
After the clove oil has kicked in  - have a look to see if you have a teaching dental school nearby - you may be able to get treatment there by the students for free :money: - that may take some of the pain away  .Rich people save then spend.
Poor people spend then save what's left.0 -

Should read be brave open your wallett get 300 quid out just to go through the b door !
Nothing sort of a disgrace the nhs dentistry is , like everything else in this country a private dentist will take ya money all in the name of bloody profit ! It stinks .....
ppps i have toothache at the moment and im riding the pain ...i havent the money to pay a private dentist and guess wot there is no nhs ones here available ...a total disgrace ....... :mad:0 -
I agree its a total disgrace!!!! I worked as a dental nurse for 27 years, I thought even on the NHS it was quite expensive!!!! Im afraid the only real way to get rid of your problem is to see a dentist. All you are doing with any remedies is masking the pain, the pain is there to tell you there is something wrong. If there are no NHS surgeries in your immediate area it may be worthwhile for you to travel. I live in the notts area and we used to get patients travelling from London to our practice, they still saved on the Private prices in their own area.0

I dont know if they still sell them but in Boots they used to sell a DIY temporary filling which lasts about 4 days. I dont know if that will be of any use or not though. I used one once when they couldnt fit me in for a few days at the dentist and I was in agony and it works but it doesnt last long.2008 Comping ChallengeWon so far - £3010 Needed - £230Debt free since Oct 20040

There is no one cause of toothache, and no one remedy.
What works well for one problem may well make another problem worse.
A spreading infection throughout your mouth can KILL. (When the swelling obstructs your airway, or infection getting into the blood system causes septacaemia.)
Don't muck about - get to a dentist! THIS IS NOT A MONEYSAVING MATTER!! IT'S YOUR LIFE.
The politics of it all are of no help at the moment. How to find a dentist.
1. Get recommendations from friends/family/neighbours/etc.
2. Once you have a short-list, VISIT the practices - dont just phone. Go on the pretext of getting a Practice Leaflet.
3. Assess the helpfulness of the staff and the level of the facilities.
4. Only book initial appointment when you find a place you are happy with.0
