There is NO problem with connecting or disconnecting wiring to the front plate.

That is very true, but in order to feed the master socket / linebox from his voip router, he would have to remove the inner plate and connect to the rear two terminals.

You cannot run two 'Masters' only a Secondary from the IDC terminals on the front faceplate.

I use VoIP and have several extensions wired into it.

Don't use Vonage as it is too expensive compared to what I use and for what I need. As it is VoIP it automatically comes with all the extras like 3-way calling, Caller ID, Call Waiting etc etc as that is down to the adapter.

I simply got a master socket and wired it up to VoIP adapter and then wired into extensions, placed master socket next to the BT and Virgin Media master sockets.

BT and Cable have separate master sockets as they can't mess with each other sockets before the test socket.
It's PAC not PAC Code, it's MAC not MAC Code, it's PIN not PIN Number, it's ATM not ATM Machine, it's LCD not LCD Display, it's DVD not DVD disc... It's no one not noone, It's a lot not alot, It's got not gotten... Panini is the plural of panino - there is no S!!

I think the master socket is BT but now used by Virgin Media?

No, you'll have a BT Master socket and a VM Cable master socket as each shouldn't mess with the other, other than from the front panel onwards.
