Moscow Money!

Could really do with some advice...

I'm going to live in Moscow for six months. Salary will be paid into a UK account.

Will need to withdraw/use 1000-1500£ a month at a guess.

I bank with NatWest which I believe will charge me royally for debit card and credit card use - what's the best solution?

Does any advice apply for China, as may be withdrawing/using large sums there too...

Bit obscure but hope someone on here's got some experience of this ;)

    Article on spending overseas here.

Briefly: get a Nationwide credit card for spending. You can arrange to automatically pay it off each month from your bank account.

For cash you could go one further and open a Nationwide current account if you want. Then you could use their debt card for free cash withdrawals at ATMs too.

I'm assuming credit cards are widely accepted and ATMs available in Moscow. I haven't been there.

I'm opening a Nationwide account (I was refused for the CC) at the moment - should get stuff through soon.

I intend to use cash for most things so debit card is of more use than credit card anyway.

As I'm with Natwest changing to Nationwide for my main current account is sensible anyway...(though hoping their customer service etc. is not worse than Natwest which I find very good).
