Wednesday I said I would never have another dog as I could never replace Fred.
Thursday I said I might get one in 6 months time
Today all the family agreed it was too quiet without one and we're now looking for a fluffy largish dog, but (at my daughters wishes) mustn't be the same colour as Fred.
We're not trying to replace Fred, we wouldn't want (and couldn't) to do that. The house is simply too quiet, and with me home all day, I'm feeling very lonely.Martin Lewis is always giving us advice on how to force companies to do things.

I am sure you will find the perfect dog for you and your family there are plenty in homes at the moment that would be exstatic to have such a loving home as yours sounds.
Show us a picture when you do find your new friend.;):o:rolleyes:;):o:o:cool:

I know what its like, I feel very odd without a dog, like something is missing, the house is far too quiet.
Would you consider a rescue dog? There are so many lovely dogs being turned into rescue at the moment, through no fault of their own, due to finances with the recession...
If so, why not join dogpages and post on 'homes offered' or tell us where in the country you are and we can see if we know any good local rescues that may have a suitable dog? (aha Norfolk - sorry just spotted that!)
I read this shortly after my lovely old dog died and as a result I have the rather lovely Badger (the dog in my avatar) sitting here with me now...
A Dog's LegacyWhen humans die, they make a will
To leave their homes and all they have
to those they love.
I, too, would make a will if I could write.
To some poor wistful, lonely stray
I leave my happy home,
My dish, my cosy bed, my cushioned chair, my toy.
The well loved lap, the gentle stroking hand,
the loving voice,
The place I made in someone's heart,
The love that at the last could help me to
a peaceful painless end
Held in loving arms.
If I should die, Oh do not say,
"No more a pet I'll have,
to grieve me by it's loss"
Seek out some lonely, unloved dog
And give my place to him.
This is the legacy I leave behind -
'tis all I have to give.0 -

I have cats as well. I had cats 13 years ago when I got Fred. Him being a puppy, they accepted him very easily.
My kids also really really want a puppy.
I also have a small concrete yard which a lot of rescue homes don't like (even though I'm only 500yrds from miles of sandy beaches)
They've already chosen one they like

I wouldn't say no to a rescue, but I'm so soppy with dogs, I'd probably want them all
Reading some of the adverts I've come across tonight, I find it extremely hard to understand other people. If I had a puppy for just 1 day, it would be part of the family and nothing would make me or my wife ever give it up for adoption etc.Martin Lewis is always giving us advice on how to force companies to do things.

Aww sorry to hear of the Dog passing on. I have a Rescue Dog with no garden, it wasn't an issue for them. I have a park & communal garden, she just has to go on a lead. I also have a Cat aged 11 in March. I didn't get to fall in love with them all, I called up & said what I could offer a Dog & they had one that fit, so I went to see just that Dog, didn't see any others. Have now had her 2 months & she's everything I could wish for & more. She's also the easiest Dog I know & i've lived with Dogs for years, tho not ones i've owned but owned by people I lived with.
Plenty of Pups in Rescue! And omg i'm jealous of a beach!0 -
As far as I know, websites like epupz arent great places to buy a pup from to be honest - a lot of puppy farmers and unscrupulous breeders sell through the net and as a dog lover I am pretty sure you would not want to be encouraging that. (there are also the infamous puppy scams to watch out for!)
(I noticed that the one your kids are looking at does not even innoculate the pups, which is risky and raises concerns about the breeders practice.)
I have never bought a dog from a breeder, but I am sure some people on here will be able to recommend breeders or how to research them.
Would you consider a pup from rescue - there are so many pregnant b1tches and pups in at the moment?
I have been watching this thread tonight - five pups born so far! http://www.dogpages.org.uk/forums/index.php?showtopic=193514
this girl is cute

thre is a gsd pup here

there are a lot of pups in rescue at the moment - these are just a few - and to be honest I dont think your concrete yard would be a problem to many rescues, especially with someone at home at the time and a nearby beach!
If you are prepared to look around the right pup for you will be somewhere out there in a rescue!0 -
oooh - some more rescue pups being born, probably very soon, (overnight or tomorrow) to Maisie, a beautiful chocolate Lab girl, who has just (today) been rescued from the pound!

btw - I reckon the pups born last night to Lady, the collie, will be retriever x collie - she was living with an entire male retriever and another collie - those pups do not look like pure collies to me! lol - I bet they will be smashing and super intelligent with those genes!0 -
It's because you loved Fred so much that you need another dog in your life.
You never replace a beloved pet but you can give a good loving home to another. Can totally understand how you feel, I've lost 3 much loved dogs over the years and each time is heartbreaking but my home seems empty without a canine companion. Take good care and can't wait to see a picture.xx0 -
Sorry about your loss of Fred. I have 3 dogs & when they are gone i would not have any more i dont think. For the simple reason its going to be hard. He is in a better place now, looking down on you. xxProud mummy to 3 beautiful children who I love so so much :oxxxx
Baby girl due april 2016! cant wait to meet her. xxx0 -
I took part of foreign correspondent's advice
I listened to their concerns with regards to the puppy I was thinking of purchasing and decided against it.
But I did find another puppy that we went to look at today.
This was from a house who had 2 Golden retriever !!!!!es, and their sons Alaskan Malamute dog (they adopted it off their son due to his work commitments). Was a very loving home, saw both mum and dad. Given the choice I would have taken dad, a huge husky looking ball of fluff with the most laid back temperament I've ever seen.
Puppy's were 13 weeks old, all vaccinations done, we spent ages round their house and they said we were welcome back any time we were passing (I think they wished they could keep all the pups but couldn't due to space).
Anyway we ended up bringing "George" home with us. He's been home for 6 hours now and seems to be settling in very well.
