Cat-flap in a kitchen cupboard

It may seem a mad idea but I don't want our cat's litter tray lying around when we have the new kitchen fitted into the house we are in the process of buying.
I was thinking of fitting a cat-flap into the door of one of the base cupboards. I would obviously have to protect the inside of the cupboard to prevent any spillage seeping into the wood/mdf or whatever it's made from.
I will order an extra door so it can be replaced when we no longer have the cats. Has anyone done this or can anyone convince me that there's a better solution.
We have 3 cats and one of them has the habit of a burrial process that sees him chucking all the cat litter over the side of the tray although we have now bought him one of the covered litter trays but some of it still escapes. We use 'Bob Martins Litter Crystals' so there is minimal odour. I think we're going to install a cat-flap in the back door too.
Any thoughts on this one?

I think its an ingenious idea! I would never have thought of that but it seems an ideal way to keep everything out of site, if they will use it.
Unfortunately I have a puppy who is already weighing it at 5 stone at 6 months, so it wouldn't work for me!
Brilliant idea though.I love this board, have "virtually" met so many lovely people, people I am honoured to count as friends.
