Buy a New car on Contact Plan or Buy a 2nd Hand car. help needed.
i have around 9k ive allocated to buy a car that will last me around 2 - 3 years and im torn between buying a 2nd hand car or a new on a personal contract plan
if i buy a 2nd hand car it isnt warrantied so any faults i will have to pay for and after 3 years it will probably be worth around 3 although it "may" cost me that in repairs over the 3 years
if i buy a new car on a personal contract plan it will cost the same over 3 years and i can hand it back (or take it on if it hasnt depreciated past what the outstanding balance is*) but any problems with it it will be covered under warranty.
so the main question is which one should i choose? is there any other pros or cons i need to consider?
*I do very low milage so it could be worth more than what i owe

2nd hand cars come with warranties too.
A nearly new car, eg 1 month to 6 months will have the remainder of the manufacturers warranty.
Cars bought nearly new at auction also have the remainder of the warranty too and you can take them for fixing at any main dealer.
The lady who sits next to me at work just got a Vauxhall Vectra 58 reg for £8999 with 2000 miles and about 4 months old.
This model has just been replaced by the Insignia so vauxhall are getting rid of stock.I beep for Robins - Beep Beep

What sort of cars cars are you thinking about buying? I would be looking at 1 year old buying outright I think.
But then I may be tempted if i was doing low miles to buy somthing a bit nice but older like a big Merc or BMW thats where the rell bargins are at the moment.0 -
im after a nice looking coupe
new car wise im thinking of the scirroco. 2nd hand wise it would be an a3 sportback0 -

Exactly what I was thinking of posting.
I've just picked up an 06 plate mercedes c180K with 20,000 miles from an authorised merc dealer for £10,000. This comes with MB 12 month warranty and 12 months roadside assistance. And it was cheaper to insure than my previous Focus 2.0 Ghia. The MPG figures are comparable to waht I was getting in my Focus too.Wha's like us - damn few, an' they're a' deid
:footie:

Wow, excellent buy. I hope it delivers in spades for you and doesn't fall apart.CHEAP doesn't mean ETHICAL0 -
back on topic these seem to be valid "pros" for purchasing a 2nd hand car over a new car... are there any benefits to buying a new car at all other than the obvious.. its new?0

No can't think of any.....
OK maybe you can spec it to what you want (but this is expensive) it has a smell of a new car.
Looking at the Scirocco there is no point to a used as they are selling for full new priced one execpt you can have it today and you would have to wait for the new one to be delivered.
Unless you go for a proper one

k just a couple of final qs to put my mind in the right place.I realise no one has a crystal ball but im sure someone in or close to the industry could give me a general consensus on some of these points
whats the future for the new cars:
with the pound falling and likey to continue to fall how will this affect new car prices?
is it likely that slightly new cars will depreciate faster due to the market?0
