Urgent Linksys to Netgear Internet

I new I'd struggle but I can't get the damn thing working.
I've got a Linksys Wap54G and have attached it to my Blue Yonder Broadband Hub. Banged in the software and it says its fine.
I have a Netgear WG111 usb adaptor in my second computer and have banged in the software for that, it says thats fine.
Vonnection for the usb device says it is getting between 36 and 54 Mbps.

Can I connect to the net through my second computer - No I can't.

Am I missing something here or am I just unlucky.
Urgent help would be appreciated and may involve the passing of a Christmas treat.

  • Some low-level network tests might help.

On the first PC, open a command window (Start - Run - type in cmd and press return) and type:

    ipconfig <return>

This shows the address of this PC and that of the Default Gateway (i.e. the router/hub) - usually 192.168.0.1. Test the network between the first PC and the router by typing:

    ping <Default Gateway IP address> <return>

This should display several 'reply' messages.

Do exactly the same on the second PC. The IP address of the default gateway should be the same. If the ping command times out, then it could be caused by a firewall on the first PC. If you are running a firewall, try turning it off temporarily and repeating the test from the second PC.

    Cheers,
when I attempt to do the biz on the second machine the default gateway is blank.
  • Make sure that the SSID of the Netgear USB adapter and Linksys access point are identical and that they are using the same channel number.
  • Probably doesnt help - but thought id share my experience.
I paid £120 for a nice looking wireless bundle from Netgear. It gave problem after problem. I then opted for a cheapy from a No brand. The no brand works a treat.
Anyone want to buy a Netgear bundle ? :)
