Help with bank card payment

I have just checked my account and there was the cleared balance was £230 less than expected so just phoned Barclays and yes there is a claim on my husband's card for £230. I know it's for Barclay Card as we usually clear the balance at the end of the month but we've stopped this Card Payment by phoning the Barclaycard 10 days ago and agreed to clear it by the 10th of February.
Now they have taken it. In normal circumstances that wouldn't be too bad, but this month it's catastrophic since dh has been made redundant and we live on my freelance money which is rather temperamental in being paid...
Barclay Bank says they cannot stop the card payment, Barclay Card say they cannot refund the money. The guy on the phone literally said "Oops sorry, we made a mistake there, will make sure they guy who made the mistake will get a bollockign..." Cheers, not exactly helping me is it...
Any of you have a great solution to this problem???

try asking for them to give you a temporary overdraft until you get paid because of their mistake? (assuming you don't already have an OD)0
