PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING: Hello Forumites! In order to help keep the Forum a useful, safe and friendly place for our users, discussions around non-MoneySaving matters are not permitted per the Forum rules. While we understand that mentioning house prices may sometimes be relevant to a user's specific MoneySaving situation, we ask that you please avoid veering into broad, general debates about the market, the economy and politics, as these can unfortunately lead to abusive or hateful behaviour. Threads that are found to have derailed into wider discussions may be removed. Users who repeatedly disregard this may have their Forum account banned. I work for a HA and if yours work the same as ours, your sale would have to go through them initially.
The way ours works is that you have to pay for a valuation by a RICS surveyor - not an estate agent. They put a maximum price on the share that you can sell it for. We then have 4 weeks to sell by marketing via our database etc. Then you can put it on the open market. Don't sign up with an EA until you have checked this all out - if the HA find you a buyer, that saves you the EA fees. HA's do charge a fee but they are definately less than an EA.
Also, it might be worth asking your HA about the new Mortgage Rescue Scheme that has just been launched - this could be a help to you, especially with the small share that you own.0 -
