First Directory what First Direct call their premier bank account - £12.95 a month for travel insurance, phone insurance, commission free currency etc. It was this I was offered with £100 cash back if I took it before I drew down the mortgage.
    Sorry for the confusion

i took the first directory option as well...total cost just over £100 for the year, you get that back against the mortgage and effectively get free travel insurance for the year ....then cancel after the year is up.

From first direct's first directory page:
£100 off arrangement fees when you take out an offset Mortgage

Where is the £12.95 figure getting pulled from :

    http://www.firstdirect.com/travel/firstdirectory.shtml

Enjoy the benefits of first directory, now with 3 months free

(then reverting to the standard tariff of £9.95 a month)
  • I managed to book the .49% above BOE base rate back in October, and my mortgage started a couple of weeks ago. I didn't go for the First Directory Account, just the bog standard free current account, and I still got the £100 joining incentive.

Thanks for the info - did they offer it to you or did you have to ask for it?

I don't know where I got the £12.95 from! If its only £9.95 then it may be worth doing it as its only £20 for the year.

first 3 months free then 9 months at £9.95 approximately £90 for which you get £100 off your arrangement fee and free travel insurance....so not even £20 cost - u r being paid for it

they have changed the offer since i took it....mine was £100 off the offset mortgage and not off the arrangement fee (i took out the 0.79 over base and that was fee free so the current offer wouldn't have been any good for that) ....not sure if your 0.79 is the fee free one!

also when i took it it was £7.75 for 6 months and £9.95 for 6 months.

    that is a different incentive...

open an account (1st account) £100

Take out first directory and get an offset mortgage another £100

and then if you decide to close the account - a third £100 (with various terms and conditions - all FD accounts would need to be closed etc. within 12 months of accounts opening)
