gas meter advise please
Hi, I have just moved into a flat, and the previous tenant had pre payment meters for both gas and electric. I want to get these changed as have heard they are more expensive than paying by direct debit. The electric supplier is EDF who have agreed to come out and change the meter for me next week. However the gas supplier is npower they have sent an engineer out to read the meter last week but said they cant send someone out to change the meter until they have all the info from the engineer for which they have a target date of end of APRIL!! After that they will then arrange for the meter to be changed.
Does anyone have any advise on whats best to do please?
can i go to another supplier and get the meter changed or do i need to wait for npower?

Change the gas to the same supplier as your electric and req them to change the meter. This will take approx 6 weeks though.Self Employed, Running my Dream Jobs0

Completely agree - just change supplier. As pointed out, it will take 6 weeks to move to a new supplier and then you'll have to book the appointment, so it'll probably be March as opposed to April!! Make sure you have no debt balance on your account with nPower that is older than 28 days and they cannot stop you
Also, don't be bullied into going straight for a Direct Debit, the savings aren't much greater than just paying your bill promptly (within 14 days I do believe, as with some suppliers you get a prompt payment discount) when you get it... It's much better to wait and get one quarterly bill before going onto Direct Debit and see exactly how much you are using so that you know a) whether the amount you are spending will cover you and b) whether the Direct Debits they are suggesting are a fair guess
Plus you'll get a Dual Fuel discount for having both fuels with the same supplier0 -

Although ... if you leave it too late in the summer to start paying by DD, the monthly amount may be higher because you won't have built up a credit balance through the summer.0 -
