Call me tight, but I've never had my eyes tested.

Opticians were always expensive and while I could see OK I didn't see the point.

no offense, but thats just stupid...

The best argument for having your eyes tested is retinitis pigmentosa (RP). RP can be detected by an eye test in the very earliest stages and then (I understand) treated with eye drops. However, by the time you notice that your sight is deteriorating due to RP (which will be about 10 years after it actually started deteriorating) it is impossible to save your sight, and you will go blind.

Eye tests are free now, I think, and they check for other eye problems as well as sight.

    What about Glaucoma also,
We have a family history for it so I have to have regular checks but if you did have it and you left it to late there is no way of getting back the sight you had already lost or going to lose.
    Early treatment is a must

    Hi Pastures,

Can I please second beaujolais-nouveau's comment. RP is in my family and although I don't have the disease, many of my relatives do. In the past (I'm talking 50 plus years ago), they did all go blind, but now with modern tests and treatments and help from Moorfields they don't, though it can still be horribly degenerative.

But even if you don't get RP (it is more devastating than it is common), deterioration in eyesight does tend to be so gradual that you won't know its happening. A new pair of glasses, if you need them, could literally open your eyes to all kinds of vision opportunities.

My last eye test I got thanks to a free voucher that was highlighted in an MSE newsletter so it doesn't have to cost.
Please stay safe in the sun and learn the A-E of melanoma: A = asymmetry, B = irregular borders, C= different colours, D= diameter, larger than 6mm, E = evolving, is your mole changing? Most moles are not cancerous, any doubts, please check next time you visit your GP.

maybe the point is to prevent your eye sight from getting worse over time???

i can see perfectly fine with both eyes together, but one eye actually has quite poor sight and the other is compensating for that. if i didn't have an eye test both eyes would end up with poor sight.

They can spot brain tumours too sometimes, I think.

Why are specs so expensive in this country? The frames are made in China and cost about 3p. It makes me laugh when they say - ooh, a bit tight, I'll just adjust them for you. Then they go in the back and bend 'em a bit and bring them back out professionally 'adjusted'.

I just used Vision Express for the first time and would like to praise them for their customer service and dedication to trying to find you as many discounts as possible!
I used D&A last time and their service is good, but their choice is poor.
Hate specsavers, our one is always full of chavs.
