That's because they're not tiles! They are the white gloss furniture panels which you get to box in hidden cisterns and make cupboard doors etc.

I thought about granite tiles but we could have slate for half the price. No contest. If they are sealed properley you should be fine although im a tiler and i quite like porcelain
tbh now days you wont notice the difference they can do wonders with porcelain !

also make sure you leave the sealant on for about 24 hr before you add water this is so the sealant cures (not drys)!
