Rejected from opening up a current account?!

Eh!? What is this? Where did you learn this magic piece of info?
HSBC Intranet, and my manager. Only applies to HSBC basics, obviously. Basically, we shouldn't open one if you've got banking elsewhere. As jonesMUFC said, they're nowhere near a profitable product for us and frankly, we're hardly falling over ourselves to open BBAs for people - so we're not particularly likely to offer them to people who have no need for the.0 -
OK well i'll make it clear anyone who wants one can have a Natwest Step account or an RBS Key account!! The customer can have any account they would like that they are eligible for. If a customer asks me a for a Step account then I will let them know that the are eligible for a current plus but if they really don't want that then how can we force them?ShelfStacker wrote: »HSBC Intranet, and my manager. I would find that very annoying if I only wanted a basic account (say as a bill paying account) and the bank made me take a different one. How is that Treating Customers Fairly?
I am pretty sure it is the same at Halifax where I also have a personal account as they offered me the choice of easycash or current when I went into to open a 2nd account.
Are there any other banks that won't let you have a basic account if you are eligible for a current?Kavanne

All banks have current accounts which do not charge fees, so why would someone want a basic account if they qualify for a better one?0

Most basic accounts have Visa Electron cards, so are better for Easyjet etc.0 -
I know for Natwest and RBS there are less possible fees. Ie: on the current account there's fee for being in an unauthorised overdraft but the step account is exempt from this.jonesMUFCforever wrote: »All banks have current accounts which do not charge fees, so why would someone want a basic account if they qualify for a better one?Kavanne
