having heard lots of stories regarding the ''left in public space/unnatended'' last time i claimed i was asked 4-5 times on circumstances of how it was lost and i always replied, last time i remember it it was on my pocket...it is not now so it s lost ...if i knew it where i left it it would be likely i would find it ''
the insurance companies use every way to bypass you, so do the same ....i m sure i forgot mine on top of a corner shop counter as i was paying for something ...if i told them that , then no phone

but that a lost one swell.. i didn't leave in purpose

Can anyone confirm if you need a proof of purchase if claiming for loss?

I am hoping to be claiming for a phone that my wife gave me last year...

  • I've just done exactly the same thing. I was told I did need proof of purchase. I didn't have this but they said I could phone by operator and ask for a proof of usage letter. I'm with O2 and they knew exactly what I meant and received a letter a couple of days later confirming that mobile phone (model) with (IMEI) has been in use by (mobile number) since (date of activation). So far, all well but still waiting for replacement phone.

    Hi,

Just looking for some advice please.

I Lost my phone in the pub!! doh!! The last time i used it was when I went outside to ring for a lift home. I put my phone back into my bag but it looks like its fell from my bag and I walked away not realising, either that or someone has taken it from my bag, which I doubt. I'm absolutely gutted because I've never lost a phone in my entire life. So, this is my first insurance claim with Halifax. I've attempted everything to try and find my phone, rang the pub and even got up really early Saturday morning to see if it was on the floor outside the premises. I realised my phone was missing on my way home and I tried to ring it but it was switched off. My phone had a full battery so I know it hasn't died. Who ever has found it has decided to keep it for them selves!!! sooo angry!!

Anyway, been doing my own research on the internet about Halifax and I've been left feeling quite negative based on the reviews on the level of service you receive. I.e reconditioned phones etc.

I've also looked at the terms and conditions and it says that I wont be covered if the phone is left unattended in a public place or act of wilful or negligence of the user . Will this, in some respect, apply to me?? Obviously, I didn't leave my phone unattended, it fell from my bag without me realising. I did have 3 glasses of wine that evening and I'm wondering if they would reject my claim because of this??

  • I recently had my bag stolen while on holiday :mad:which had money and my i phone 4 in it.i reported it to the police and got a police report.I rang halifax while on holiday and was told that i had travel insurance so could claim for all items through that excess cost £50 and to ring within 24hrs of arriving home.I rang when i got home and was informed that i would have to claim separately for phone through mobile insurance and euros bag and purse through travel insurance.Really annoyed as would mean that have to pay 2 excess charges but went ahead with claim. Was told to get proof of usage of phone through network as no proof of purchase. They then put me through to travel insurance and was told because i had euros stolen it was a seperate element so would have to pay £50 excess for euros and a further £50 excess for bag and purse.I am fuming:mad: i was only claiming for 90 euros and bag and purse £30.i told them that it was ridiculous but she said that they have to buy euros so that was why the excess.i told her to forget it.To top it all off three network cant give me proof of usage as only on sim deal so now cant claim for phone either.Looked through terms and conditions for travel insurance and it doesnt say that if you have mobile insurance then you have to claim through them. They are just money grabbing scum like the person who stole my bag.

I've had to make several phone calls to the claims department to get my phone fixed. Firstly, my requests to get a prepaid envelope out were not successful. They can't blame to post office for losing my post 3 times. I finally discovered I could download the form online & sent the phone out to them myself - I got my phone back a few days later still broken. I can't believe it was checked as it wouldn't even turn on properly. I think they saw the screen was broken & replaced that without looking into it further.
They now want me to send it back to them so they can have another go at fixing it. This is not the service I thought I was paying for. I've had to buy another handset in the meantime because 4 weeks is just too long to wait without a phone. I'm really upset with amount of time I've wasted on this. When I complained to Halifax they just seemed to distance themselves from the phone insurance company they're using which in itself is not helpful either.

zoleigh - Do you know where you can actually download the mobile phone claim form?

    Hi Susy
I had a similar thing happen last night but someone stole my phone from my bag in a bar and proceeded to make over 22 international calls!
I'm am concerned this wont be covered as I was in a public place - did you have any joy with your claim?
    Thanks

Never pay for a bank account, you can get them for free you know.....

All these 'perks' of accounts with fee's are mostly worthless. As with all insurance it's difficult to claim and you can usually get cover cheaper elsewhere if you really need it. Better to self-insure (ie. just put some money aside each month), odds are you'll be better off, otherwise insurance companies wouldn't be in business.
  • I have just received a refurbished iPhone 4s through the scheme after my old phone went through the washing machine. The quality of the phone is terrible, chipped screen at the bottom and all the sides scratched plus lots of dirt/dead skin in the speakers etc. On the plus side it's battery is much better than my old iphone but the water damaged one I sent in was in great condition with hardly a mark on it! However, at least I have a phone that works but the insurance policy obviously isn't the best option if you want a new for old replacement policy.

It never claimed to offer old for new, if you wanted this it wasnt the policy for you
Don't put your trust into an Experian score - it is not a number any bank will ever use & it is generally a waste of money to purchase it. They are also selling you insurance you dont need.
