Problem with body shop during claim

Our car is in for a full re-spray after some twonk poured paint stripper all over it. The estimate from the body shop for 5 to 10 days for the re-spray.

Our insurance company provided us with a courtesy car, but for a maximum of 14 days as they have no third party to claim the cost from.

It's now been 21 days and we don't have the car back. The delay is because the body shop say they had to replace the windscreen because it had a small chip in in, however it's a rain sensitive screen which is out of stock and on back order at the supplier.

In the meantime we are having to pay for the courtesy car.

I feel that the body shop did not need to replace the windscreen as it went through it's MOT fine with the chip. I suspect that they broke the screen when they took it out to remove the roof panel and are using the chip as an excuse.

What rights do I have to re-claim the costs and how would I best go about it? Suggestions please......

It would depend who supplied the courtesy car, was it your insurers approved repairer or your insurers as you chose who did your repairs?
If it was the insurers approved repairers there should be no limit on how many days you have a courtesy car. I would approach the repairer and ask them to provide you with a courtesy car at no cost if your insurers have provided the car.

i have seen some policies with RBS insurance, where the policyholder only has a guarenteed c/car for 14 days.
