Most utilities do NOT carry out credit checks. I know British Gas did on me, but can also tell you that Scottish Power, Npower, Eon and Altlantic did not.
I am a regular swapper as you can tell!
Really? Were you on prepay?
The OP was asking if her mum would be credit checked to change from prepay to credit meter.0 -
You don't get charged for using your emergency credit - but you have to pay it back when you top your electricity up again (sorry - have lost the notes I used to have on which type of meter takes this back when). In addition, when you're running in the emergency credit the meter doesn't take the standing charge it would normally - but of course it remembers what it's owed from that and will take that back when you credit the meter again.
Means that once you start riding the emergency credit it looks like you're burning through electricity like nothing else unfortunately. If you get it back so the meter's running in credit most of the time it'll look less like she's putting a tenner in and it's vanishing in a couple of days... if that's any help.Little miracle born April 2012, 33 weeks gestation and a little toughie!0
