help, i sold my house in 2007 and made some equity on it, eer since then we have been renting so the money has been in the highest interest earning account i could find ie, 50k in each account with different banks for my wife and me.
My friend runs a second hand car showroom and as with everyone the credit crunch hashit him ard and he asked to borrow 75k about 3 months ago. He was waiting on payments from customers. He gave me a cheque which i cashed on the 14th Janaury, he phoned to say he would have cleared funds in his account so could he sop the cheque and issue cheques for smaller amounts which i was fine with. I logged online with abbey national Monday 19th only to be greated witha message saying contact our fraud team.
I phoned them and they said as i had a large cheque fr 75k stopped they wanted proof from the company that the cheque was for me. My friend wrote a letter on headed paper an stated that he cancelled the cheque and that it was purely for a loan. Which abbey were happy with, he has now paid in 3 cheques for 10k each, which have now all been placed on stop because they want anothe letter form him that they are really meant for me. He did this letter last night and i sent t to abbey which they confirmed they receievd but have since said that the manager of the fraud department is not happy with the letter and wants a copy of my friends bank statement showing that he had funds in his account for the cheques to clear.
My friend said his statement is showing the funds gone, so these funds are in abbey nationals hodling account without meearning any interest on them, well at best minimal current account interest.
I know have to wait for my frined to get statements sent from HSBC showing the funds in hi account before abbey national will release the 30k.
I;m livid with abbey antional, ive spoke to a total of 17 different people for all deptments some more helpful than others, i cant speak to a manager because they are all busy and its been 36 ours since i requested a call back from a manager!!
they are useless, the only reason i needed the money back was we have found a house we like and had our offer accepted so want to proceed so need our money back.
I wouldnt mind if i was some drug gang/money laundering but they onyl have to look back to 2007 and se the money in my acount, why would the need a cop of the statement when the cheques have cleared in abbeys holding account.
Ive wrote a letter stating that i' really unhappy with them and i will cancel all our accounts with them, and the recent mortgage application i had made.
i've asked for them to pay me the interest i would have earnt in my kaupthing edge account?

Why bother with cheques? Get him to do an electronic transfer, problem solved. Banks are always nervous about large cheques because it's too easy to fraud-icize them.Mmmm, credit crunch. Tasty.0
