This isn't just for Silver Savers but is open to anyone. But on another thread recommending dial-up ISPs, it mentined that they had seen on these S/S threads that the cheapest dial-up was Tesco daytime. Well I have been (and several other satisfied users) with Fast 4 ISP - https://www.fast4.net -
for over 2 years. The cost is £6.99 per month which gives you 24 hour access, 7 days per week, plus e-mail etc.
No connnection or call charges involved. Minimum 3-month contract. This is the best price, I have checked everywher and this cannot be beaten!

The cheapest dialup has to be NTL. It costs £15 a month and for that you get £15 worth of telephone calls 24 hour access 24/7. Which means ntl dialup costs nothing, and you can't beat that and I'm dreading the day ntl closes down its dialup provision. You don't have to be on cable, they provide a dialler or you dial the code before making your phone calls.0

But getting back to costs, 1. You can only use NTL if you are in an NTL cable area, they no longer take customers outside their cable area according to their website. 2. If you are not with NTL and use Just Dial, evenings and week-end calls are free, otherwise we use 1899 and our telephone calls average about £5 per month if that. 3. Fast 4 service is open to anyone with a BT line. So my calls and dial-up cost me less than £15 per month, so I still say Fast 4 are the cheapest!
PS. Thought I would give them a ring just to make sure and the Freedom Classic (£15 per month) package is no longer available !!
Anyone outside their cable area is transferred to Virgin, who do not offer any telephone packages !!"0844 COSTS YOU MORE"0 -
That's really helpful. I guess the happy ntl customers like me don't have a website!0

just as a point of interest, NTL OWN nthell.co.uk !!!!The word is BOUGHT, not BROUGHT.
It's LOSE, NOT LOOSE.

Having mentioned Tesco Daytime on another thread, am dissappointed at the lower speed compared to my previous Tiscali Daytime (with Tiscali Accelerator)
So to get to the same level of service would have to purchase ONSPEED at £25 a year.But......I don't really want 24/7...other things to do.
Tiscali Daytime (5days) is £4.99....Tiscali Daytime (7days) is £7.99...Tesco Daytime (7days and more overall hours) is £5.99 plus ONSPEED ..say £7.99..and Fastnet is £6.99, so you are partly right, Lofty, tho I might have to add ONSPEED making it £8.99. Curiously Tiscali ANYTIME has restricted monthly hours, as perhaps with Tesco . Not sure of these Anytime prices but Tesco was at one time £12.490 -
Does ONSPEED actually do anything?0
-
Tesco.net still is £12.49 anytime but their customer services @.50p min.is expensive and often not any helpVal0

ONSPEED is a very effective accelerator. You can adjust it so that images are not degraded much compared to broadband, but the speed seems to be almost broadband. Using it free via Tiscali (called Accelerator) or on subs from Onspeeed save money if you are on PAYG internet as you surf so much more quickly.
Consider PAYG instead of monthly sub - see what the bill is like. Onetel have a 1.5p/min anytime deal. or just use Tiscali.0 -

Do you still have to wait 4 months for a CD to turn up to allow you to connect to the service? I used to be on NTL dialup many moons ago. I was happy with the service when I eventually got it.Blessed are the geeks, for they shall inherit the Internet.0
