Can anyone give me some tips to optimise my PC's performance? It's been really frustrating lately, as it will virtually grind to a halt if I run too many applications at once (I might have, for example, KES [database program thingy for AQA], Yahoo messenger [I hate it but am required to have it for AQA], Firefox, Autoroute, and if I open anything else up I'm in for a wait).

I'm also getting messages telling me that the virtual memory is too low. [STRIKE]When I shut down, I get a box coming up saying ending program CiceroUIWndFrame (!!!!!! is that? :confused: )[/STRIKE] Oh, and my scanner hasn't worked since I took the PC to be repaired a year or more ago. I'm sure that one must be software / driver related. :confused:

Happy to answer all your questions, as I don't know what other information you need. I'll probably need telling where to look for the information you need, too. :o It's about 6 years old now, but I can see no reason why it shouldn't be up to the job.

    Virus-free, AVG, yes it's XP, and I've stopped a number of programs running at startup. AVG was one of them.

    Post the log here AFTER youve deleted everything it finds

    Run the top 2 scans (Backup the registry when it asks)

    Reboot

    Download HIJACK THIS (Top right)

    SCAN and post the log so we can see whats running

    :o I forgot. It's not AVG any more, it's Avast. :o

    One of the things I noticed was that on most occasions when it was exceptionally slow, Avast was updating in the background. Now it does it when I say, not when it wants to. :p

    good start...now run CCleaner Registry and cleaner, bin everything it finds, do a disk cleanup and defrag...that'll help before going any further....

    You need to sort this out

    O2 - BHO: WormRadar.com IESiteBlocker.NavFilter - !!3CA2F312-6F6E-4B53-A66E-4E65E497C8C0} - C:\Program Files\AVG\AVG8\avgssie.dll (file missing)

    but if you get rid of avg then that above should go
