Parking Query

Right just looking for any comments about this..

Does the fact that you have lived in a place longer give you the right to say that a council owned car park attached to council property's " is yours and noboby elses to use". Ive been here 5 years so i have no right to use this space because she's been here 9 years. Now when i use it i get blocked from moving my car and tonight had to confront her which btw was not pretty. I had this said to me " Move the car or else, I,ll bloody lamp you one, This is my space. blah blah blah..

Guess what ive just come in and saw the space empty and like a right plum, i've parked elsewhere just to keep the piece[for now] the car park only has spaces for 4 cars, but the road leading into the car park has space for another 3 and thats where i'm now. My reasons for caving in for now are 1: Shes a woman, 2: Shes getting on for 60 and 3: she is disabled.

I think if it is a council car park then it will be for anyone to use. To be fair though, if an elderly disabled person used a space then I'd be quite happy to leave it for them.

However I wouldn't be that worried about a 60 year old, disabled woman lamping me.

Use the space, it's not hers!! Just because she has lived there longer, doesn't mean she had first dibs on it.

Can you not write to the council and let them know how she acts/what was said to you?

Cheeky cow she is - sorry, I don't care how old she is or the fact that she is disabled, manners don't cost a thing!

Sounds very much like parking where I live. In which case it is not a "council owned" car park, but part of the highway. It's free to use for anyone unless there's any restrictions marked. Why people behave like this I'll never know. Parking at my house is by means of white lines, with a disabled bay marked at each end. The parking is non-allocated, so if someone's in the space I usually park in, I'll happily park further along. In fact I don't mind the extra metre exercise :D

If this woman *is* disabled it shouldn't be too difficult for her to get the council to paint up disabled markings on the road, then she'll have no reason to get a bee in her bonnet.

If she is intentionally blocking you then that's *not* on. I wonder if the police would do anything about this in terms of obstructing the highway. You could move her car with a trolley jack which she wouldn't like :D but AFAIK so long as you cause no damage and merely move it you're in the clear.

Unfortunately if it's just a case of using a different space to keep her happy then you're probably best doing that really. Get that extra 2 metres exercise each day :D As I know only too well neighbours can be right !!!!!!.

Terry Im not bothered just dubious as to what else she is prepared to do..

S-S I have spoken to the team leader in the council dep't that deals with these problems/issues. I am awaiting a reply back.

It is council owned i've checked, and cornwall council don't issue disabled parking spaces to residents and if they
did they said it would be for all blue badge holders and not just her. Devon and other councils issue personal spaces for residents and even put their door number on the space as well. No one wants to park on the road into car park because cars are damaged due to bad drivers[wing mirrors etc] not being being careful when cars are parked up as they are coming and going, this is not just residents but visitors/delivery drivers etc.

He who shouts loudest wins. Looks like she is winning.

If it was me I would tackle it head on but then I'm not noted for my diplomacy skills and the downside of that is your car will be damaged.

    As Sun Tzu would say:-

Generally the one who first occupies the battlefield awaiting the enemy is at ease; the one who comes later and rushes into battle is fatigued.
  • i would but an heap for a quid and shove it in the space to !!!! her off

    Tricky one;

To be honest if she's disabled (never mind female - we can look after ourselves thank you :p ) & elderly I would probably give in ... until she got abusive & threatened me. If she blocks you in / threatens you ,you have every right to cal in local plod... however given her situation it wont really show you up in a good light. Very frustrating as it sounds like she's using her disability to bully you. I think I would take her details ( car reg, name & address) & ask local council to get in touch with her.

This sort of sh!it is why I rent a garage from local council at twice the cost of my insurance

    good luck mate

Hmm, sound like her OH knows she's a bit of a harridan  . Quite agree with you about not laying claim to what's not yours ... otherwise Johnny Depp would be mine :D

I would say go with your instincts & to be honest it sounds like you're a decent well brought up kind guy & she's probably counting on that rather than if you were some chav who would just mouth off at her irrespective of her age & vulnerability.

If faced with abuse from someone either weaker or more vulnerable than me I always try to rise above it by wondering how I'd behave in their situation, otherwise it's gauntlets down & may the best one win

Irrespective of ownership of the space how would you feel if it was your mum / gran in her situation against a younger able bodied guy:confused:.

    Good luck anyway ;)
