2 Car insurance policies

my wife has just reversed into a neighbour's car driving my car
I could cover it with my insurance, but as there is no damage to my car, and she is covered under her car insurance for third party damages, I would prefer to use her insurance.
will her insurance company accept this ?
thanks ... Mike

No!
Why would they if she did the damage driving your car? (Her insurance is presumably for another car?)0 -
because her insurance specifically covers her for 3rd party damage while driving another car0
-
That would be ok if she is specifically covered - but check the certificate as normally you aren't covered like this for driving a car owned by your partner.0
-
the certificate says it provides 3rd party cover as long as its with the owners permission, and its not hired.
my concern is her insurance company might argue that my car is covered by another insurance policy, and therefore I must claim on that, rather than hers ?0 -
Maybe they will - but in that case you instigate a claim against your policy.
Your wife's extension for driving other cars is unusual to allow this cover for driving your car. Which insurer is it with? (I see a moneysaving opportunity!)0 -
Prudential - very cheap too !0

If your wife is a named driver under your policy then it is your policy that will have to deal with the third party claim, full stop.0
-
Raskazz is totally correct, as your wife is a named driver on your insurance you will have to claim under your insurance.
Even if she did start claiming on her policy they will ask questions which identify that there is another policy on the car. It is then simple for them to check on the Motor Insurance Database (The database that shows what cars are insured, who with and for what drivers) and will notice that she is covered on your policy so will tell her to claim off your policy.
I hope this helps0 -
wouldnt they might also do a 50/50 spilt between them which could be worse for them ie what some travel insurance does with home insurance..0
