Beware when you change supplier....

I recently changed from British Gas to EON having already been with EON beforehand,I received my quarterly bill from July to September this week 27/01/09.As they are Summer Months i was shocked to see it came to £411.
I noticed the bill was all estimated so i phoned EON and asked them for my final meter reading before i went to BG.It was 6493 but on my BG bill they had estimated it at 6012 a difference of 481.I phoned BG and presented them with my EON reading,he said can you hang on? then came back with an amended bill of 1p in credit.I said to him isnt it a good job i checked and how many poor people havent checked and been ripped off.
So beware if you change over, check all your readings before paying any money.

It is your previous supplier who are supposed to give your final meter reading to your new supplier. When I moved, I made sure I telephoned both suppliers with meter readings and avoided this. I agree to check, however.

Other way around - it's actually the new supplier's job to give the reading to the old supplier. However, as you said, it always makes sense to provide them to both companies.

Do apologise - wrong way around (thanks for that).
