Out of curiosity, OR and cars?

Just curious,

Does the OR run a check with DVLA to see what cars are registered to you or does he just rely on what you declare?

Obviously I'd hate him to discover my collection of Ferraris :D

Seriously though, I don'twant to hide anything, just curious really.

Yes, not that it tells them who the owner is, but the two usually go hand in hand
Thats it, i am done, Blind-as-a-Bat has left the forum, for good this time, there is no way I can recover this account, as the password was random, and not recorded, and the email used no longer exits, nor can be recovered to recover the account, goodbye all …………. :(
  • Just adding to this thread on OR and car queries, does the OR get a Valuer out to assess the actual condition of your car or does he simply use the Trade guides?

Using Parkers my car would be worth approx. £4500 for dealer trade-in but when I had it valued at the weekend by a dealer they advised £3400 because of the daily abuse it gets from the kids, ha ha:mad: .

Just curious as to how they work this one out.

Also if you can prove you need a car I hear they can either allow you to buy it back from them or they offer you something from the proceeds after they've disposed of it - is this correct and if anyone has had this happen to them what sort of money are we looking at?

There is nothing certain regarding cars and bankruptcy. Its one of those areas where you just have to wait and see. The OR uses a trade guide to value the car, if you think it is vastly different then I suppose you could appeal. He will only give you any surplus money back from a sale if it is deemed that you need a car, not simply if it makes your life easier.

  • Well I've just had my initial "brief 5-min" interview on phone from the Newcastle OR Office.

The guy on the phone was very nice. He couldn't really answer my questions though as he was merely an assistant needing to confirm name, DOB, assets etc.

He did say though that if vehicles are over £2500 in value they will uplift.

So if your vehicle is under this limit they won't touch it.

So does that mean you get £2500 allowance towards a new "banger", if deemed you require a car, or just £2000 if they take £500 for their admin fees?

Interesting. I will keep you informed on what happens in the Newcastle region re my car.

He said my OH and I should get our BR packs from the OR tomorrow or Monday at the latest.

    :T
  • with me my OR decided that because i dont use my car to get to work then its not needed and i have to put in an offer to buy back, my nan was down as a dependant as i basicly care for her but he wouldnt allow it, my car is only worth on parkers £300-400 and needs work. but they still want it.

by the way does anyone know how long it takes to contact you for buying the car back as i went br 18 dec and still havent heard anything. but dont want to ring and remind them

That's ridiculous. The OR's assistant who phoned me this morning said they don't touch it below £2500 due to sales/auction fees, admin work etc - i.e. not worth their while.

How much are they going to spend on admin work/fees to sell your car worth £300!!!

    Stupid, and your poor Nan.

    Which region are you?

Is this your only vehicle within your family, if you have access to another they may have felt you could use that.

    Still think its madness
  • I think it's something to do with running costs, even if the car is only worth £300 or so. But in lisa's case, yes, I think they were harsh with her, especially with the situation with her nan.

    Rach
  • That's true - if it is costing the earth in repairs and expenses they will take it!!
  • Hello, Can I add my bit. My car is only worth 250.00 and the OR is insisting they want it, I live in the sticks on my own with no other means of transport and the nearest bus stop is 1.5 miles away but because my job is a 15 /20 min walk away they deem I do not need a car, so for shopping, emergencies etc I am stumped! I went Bankrupt on 16th December had my OR interview in the first week of January within 45 minutes of the end of the interview someone rang me to advise that they will be calling me giving me 24 hours notice to collect the car. Up to yet I have not had the call though.

he didnt ask what condition, or anything he just said you dont use it for work so you will have to get a thrid party to make an offer for it.

my dad pays the tax mot i just pay insurance and petrol. im making a low offer and if they dont accept it im going to tell them to take it, they will be the ones out of pocket picking it up and trying to sell it
    i live in essex.

mypiggybankisempty now that really was harsh for you

see this is why you never know untill you have your interview i thought mine would be safe because of the price and my nan being a dependant but its the luck of the draw really who you get
